can someone tell me why they didn't use lasers on the worms? is it too risky to use it bcz some fremen might wear a shield and cause a nuclear explosion. edit : just looked it up, even if they cut the worm it will just grow back and duplicate

It’s odd to me that a sandworm’s scales would overlap so that a hook thrown forward and pulled backwards would catch like this, because scales in that fashion would make it difficult for the worm to crawl through sand without the scales catching on things. They should overlap the other way to streamline the creature. Think of a cheese grater: you pass your hand over it one way and your hand catches and gets shredded but if you pass your hand over it the other way it will just ride up harmlessly over the bumps.
